How to teach your dog Leave It
Disengagement taught as a game, not as a correction.
The steps
- 1
Put a treat on the floor and cover it with your hand.

Wait. The instant your dog backs off, mark and pay from your other hand.
- 3
Uncover the treat. Cover it again if the nose moves back in.
- 4
Add the word once backing off happens straight away.
